I am curious about how you all share the information you acquire at the Compliance Institute? Last year, I returned and set up meetings with those who I thought could benefit from the information. I am wondering if any of you have some good ideas about how you have brought the messages home?

Julie,

You may want to consider collaborating with some of the folks you may meet with at the Institute.  One approach that works well is to hold online meetings with groups who have representatives that attended various sessions.  This way you can also share or split the load of sharing with others.

I've done this often with folks who attend conferences and it works well.  In fact, you can even use some of the 30 day trial periods for some of the online portals so that way it is cost effective and it can be done online.

Ask each person sharing to simply answer the basic Who What Where When Why and How format.  Here's a sample of such a debrief related to the screening of OIG lists that was offered after a recent attendance at the HEAT Compliance Training put out by OIG in 2011.

What:
Session on screening OIG excluded parties list.

Who
Presented  by attorneys from the OIG

Where
Denver CO

When
May 3, 2011

Why
To ensure that Medicare and Medicaid providers and suppliers do not hire or contract with excluded parties that may be listed on the OIG list

How
- Check the list frequently
- Make sure to use alias or maiden names
- Be mindful that the list is updated monthly, often after the middle of the month
- Have a process to deal with cases where a match on the list occurs
- Use search window interface on website
- Download the list and search on local computer
