Follow on to our discussion on the Dodd Frank whistleblower webcast, Lee Essrig has sent the link to the New England Journal of Medicine whistleblower study  http://www.whistleblowers.org/storage/whistleblowers/documents/DoddFrank/newenglandjournalmedicine.pdf  It's from 2010 but worth noting some of the very interesting detail such as Table 2 which drilled down to why people came forward:  1) self-preservation 2) justice  3) integrity  4) altruism/public safety - which is consistent with other findings that people list the most common reason as "outrage"  and not financial rewards.  Since I haven't seen a study with this much detail on motivation,  I thought this was worth sharing.
